Pic of the day: Dry fly, upper Wandle

Wandle trout - Jez Mallinson

So it begins… our good pal Jez Mallinson (otherwise quoted as the ultimate urban fly-tying authority on Huddersfield’s River Holme in Trout in Dirty Places) gets his 2015 season off to a flyer with a perfect wild trout from the upper Wandle.

(And check out all that river restoration work from last year… already greening up nicely in the background!)

    Hi Theo
My many thanks for posting this photo and mention of the new fly dressing club, this little feller was without doubt the most beautiful trout I have caught on the Wandle to date. Fin perfect and its markings were superb, a few days later John Butler and myself caught two more but in the 4-6inch bracket which only proves to me that the Trout in the Classroom project has been a massive success and they are naturally spawning on the upper reaches, well done to everyone involved without you myself and other like-minded anglers wouldn’t get to enjoy the pleasure of catching Trout in what used to be an open sewer
    Jez
